How do I get track titles from CDs to show up on my iphone 4 air jacket?

When I upload music from any CD (store bought and burned) onto my laptop into iTunes they just show up as the track numbers, there are no song titles. Even when I export them onto my iphone 4 air jacket they show up as Track 01, 02, etc... Do I have to be connected to the internet for titles to work? Shouldn;t the CD itself already be encoded with the song titles?
