The battery has a tendency of heating and expanding. The bulging causes problems with the trackpad, and worst of all if the computer is running off of the battery, it causes sudden shut downs without any possibility of saving your work. Sadly, once the battery has expanded, it is no longer usable due to the minute tolerances of the powerbook, even though it can hold a charge.
