How do I register my new ipod to hard drive touch to itunes when I already have an itunes library?

So i already have an ipod to hard drive, but i bought a new one. I want to register this new ipod to hard drive touch to the same itunes library but i can;t. I plugged in the usb cable, but nothing happens, except for the ipod to hard drive showing a picture with a usb cable pointing to itunes. How do I register my ipod to hard drive without making a new itunes? Just plug it in the computer and it will sinc it. All you should have to do is plug it in and open Itunes.
