Want to update to the new firmware, but iTunes insists on backing up the iPad first. I have downloaded quite a lot of apps direct to the iPad, so the back up seems like it will take ages and also means that I will be storing the apps both on the iPad and my laptop, which seems a pointless waste of space! backing up your ipad is a good idea anyway in case you have to ever restore it.
