How do you copy back apps from your usb and ipad unto your computer?

like ok so if i have to reformat my harddrive, and my apps will only be on my usb and ipad. and NO they are not available to redownload from itunes. they are old and discontinued for more than a year. how do i copy them back? i used to have no trouble doing it, but i tired to it the other day and it didnt; work . all you have to do is once your hard drive is reformatted just reinstall itunes and hook up your usb and ipad. The apps will be reinstalled onto your computer so you should have no problem. Reinstall
